Good points.
Most people's first line of advice is "go start a blog".
I tell my clients to first consider the amount of work involved in having a blog (work that takes away from their core business), and to really determine what the actual benefit of having a blog would be.
For most, the opportunity cost to having a blog is much easier to see (and often much greater) after going through this process.
