How to request a link from a blogger
March 28, 2008
I got an email from someone promoting a business article about debt for business. Normally I only write about marketing topics, even though I do care about other business topics as well. However, this email just seemed perfect, so I wanted to find a way to make it marketing relevant and post it here.
Here is the email:
Edited: The emailer requested that I remove the identifying parts of the email, so I am taking those out immediately.
Hi Ron,
We just posted an article “ABC” (http://www……………………..). I thought I’d bring it to your attention just in case you think your readers would find it interesting.
Either way, thanks for your time!
Thanks,
Name Here
Now, this could be some spam bot - but I checked out the url and it is a good article. Sure, there are affiliate links, but people do have to eat.I am posting it here because it can be a good template for you. Short, shows appreciation for the blogger, does not pressure the blogger and is a very fast read.

Got something to say?

Thanks for the “footprints” comments in Buzzoodle lesson #3. One of our goals with Akron Means Business is to give your business lots of ways to leave “footprints.” For example: tell me about your Fabulous Favorites and I print your name and business along with your favorite.
Ron, I got the same email.
I notice that Helen uses a gmail account — which made me think spam also. But, the site does have trackbacks — so I was able to find you.
Oddly, once you removed the url from your site, as she requested — there is no link to the article she asked your readers to consider.
I must have missed something.
But that’s not unusual…

Yes, she did request to have me take down that email. I modified it to protect her identity - as requested.
I fully support a well written email template, and she emailed me several times as we discussed her issue with my post. Not something a spammer would have bothered with.
I was contacted by the same lady. I can appreciate the time and work it takes to promote a blog like that. As a marketing intern it was my job to do the same for my employer’s business blog. The article was relevant to the broad range of topics I cover, so I was happy to write about it.
Good entry:)
