Are You Important Enough?
February 5, 2008
I wrote a post a while back called Leaving Footprints In the Sand. In my free 20 lesson buzz marketing course, I have one lesson that is tied to this post. It talks about the importance of participating and leaving comments.
Even though many people read the lesson, and many people respond favorably to it, it still gets fewer comments than I would expect.
You are important enough!
No one likes to get spam comments that waste their time. Outside of that, bloggers love to get feedback and comments. The link and visibility helps the commenter too.
Get over whatever is stopping you. You do not have to write something important or profound. Just contribute something positive and reap the rewards of more people visiting your website or blog.
When you read the Leaving Footprints In the Sand post, you can see that most people are just saying, “Thanks…”
I like getting those comments. People click on the links. So you have to ask yourself, why am I not commenting more?

Got something to say?

Ron:
Excellent post! A couple of things:
1. I love the field label of your “Comments” form large text area (the thingy I’m writing in right now): “Speak your mind”.
Very liberating, as opposed to the the standard label “Your comment” or other such bland directive. In fact, that field label ties in nicely with the topic of this post - to feel free to comment… and that leads me to my other point.
2. In the final line of your post, you ask readers to ask themselves, “Why am I not commenting more?” I only recently began commenting more on blogs in an effort to not only more effectively contribute to the blogosphere, but also to help generate some additional traffic to my funny video clips blog. I wish I began commenting more because so far the results have been excellent! I find I enjoy making comments, AND I’m seeing more traffic!
Why haven’t I commented much before? Point blank: Fear. Fear of not having something worthy to contribute, something of little value. I think that’s the case with a lot of people.
As it turns out, in many of the comments I’ve made on blogs, I’ve been able to not only offer something of value, but I’ve been able to tie it in to the topic of my own blog (funny videos). I think readers see value in that alone!
That all said, I like how you stated that there’s no need to “… write something important or profound.” That’s an open door to drop your fears and just write a comment! Thanks for little push!
Finally, great blog!
Dave
Thanks Dave.
Isn’t it funny how it took a couple of days for even one person to post on this post.
Maybe I just pissed everyone off!
Everyone visit Dave’s Webpage to reward him for being the brave first person to post here.
Yes, I agree with your post. And even James Brausch teaches his interns to post comments on blogs.
Posts can be a good way to get some traffic to your blog, or whatever else you want to drive traffic to.
