Why does that impress you?

Why does that impress you?

My daughter rolls her eyes every time I ask her that.

It’s cool, dad…

Why is it cool?  – Ug!

It is a terrible childhood when you cannot grow up just enjoying things, but have to be asked to analyze why you like something.

I firmly believe it is a good habit to get into though.  Anyone can be a great marketer if they just analyze why they like something and why others seem to like things.

We had a great trip to Orlando last week and we all thought that the Rainforest Cafe was really cool.  My 2 year old saved us when it started thundering.  It was an experience for the whole family.  – Anyplace that is cool for the whole family is rare.

It is not just about being cool though.  Vacation was very stressful for Alexandra because she worried her Webkinz would die.  It did get very sick and now she is nursing it back to health so it can be ready for the party it is throwing in a few weeks.

Even though webkinz is rather addictive, I am all for it.  She spends more time playing with that than her real dog and I believe that in the future we will not need to have real pets.  Victory is mine!

So start asking yourself why products or places impress you.  Why do you go back?  Do others feel the same way?

How do you create the same feelings for what you have to offer?

99 Ways to Create Buzz on the Web

A while back, I wrote a post that is called 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall….

It is 99 ways to create buzz on the web.  This post gets visited daily by people that are working a little bit each day to create buzz.  It is by far the best performing post that I have written over the long haul.

Take a look at it for two reasons.  One, you may find some new places to create buzz.  Two, what resource could you build like this that would get linked to and create repeat users?

How will your buzz rules change?

I read a really good and interesting post over at Tim Ferriss’ 4 Hour Work Week Blog.  At first, I did not agree with everything he was saying.  Later I realized it just depends on the level of buzz you are creating.

If you are relatively unknown or do not have a high level of buzz, then taking the time to respond to negative buzz and try to fix the situation can lead to more positive buzz.  If you are high profile and getting all kinds of buzz, like Tim is, his advice to ignore the negative makes more sense.  Just imagine if Lindsey tried to respond to every negative comment.  “I was not that drunk…”

His post adapts a self defense philosophy for fighting to fighting in the blogosphere.  One of the most frequent questions I get is “What is someone says something bad?” – They will if you are doing a good job of creating buzz.

Read Tim’s article on how to defend yourself.

FoR – Friends of Ron

I launched a new email list I am calling FoR – Friends of Ron (I am not the first person with a list like that.)

You can sign up at: http://www.ronmcdaniel.com/friends.asp

That is not for people interested in Buzz Marketing.  That eNewsletter is here and includes a 20 part series of lessons on Buzz Marketing free.

The FoR list is going to be an interesting experiment.  Networking events, parties, updates about kids… all the stuff you really do not care about unless you really know me….. but a lot of people know me.  How many do you think will sign up?
