Boy, am I glad that we dodged the bullet in this game of Russian roulette that we play with products from China. I mean, no Americans died to my knowledge relating to Chinese agricultural products(CAP). It’s sad that pets paid the price for trading with China, but humans have yet to suffer any fatality.

It has been widely known for more than a decade by Chinese literate communities that it is all too common that CAP are often tainted with potentially harmful contaminants.

I can’t read Chinese, but I recall about 10 years back, my Taiwanese parents told me that in the Taiwanese newspaper they’ve read, reported many vegetables in China have been found with metal rods inserted into the stem. This tampering affect the weight making it heavier when set on the scale. The heavier the produce, the more money the supplier may charge.

They’ve always cautioned me when it comes to buying goods from China. Back in the mid to late 80′s, I tried to boycott goods from China, but it was easy then, as we only traded with them on a very small scale. Today, things are different, as it is virtually impossible to find any goods on the store shelf that doesn’t come from China.

It not easy shopping today given that relationship we have with China; however, if you have a choice of buying goods made in China and goods from elsewhere, I would go with the elsewhere, especially when it comes to food, since your health may be at stake.
